Welcome to the Journo Cafe Topic Menu. Here you can submit and vote on topics to be discussed during the weekly #journocafe conversation on Twitter, every Wednesday from 8-11PM EST.

I'd like to discuss...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the “My feedback” filter and select “My open ideas”.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

      • Does there need to be a line drawn between a journalist and a blogger? Concider shield laws, etc

If we mix a blogger and a journalist into one group then does anyone who writes a blog qualify for things like, shield laws, press access, or other tools that a journalist uses to complete a story.

Then what are the requirements. Does someone who created a free blog, but never uses it receive the same benefits as a day to day journalist?

Also if some bloggers are in effect journalist then what defines them as being different then the person who opens a free blogging account?

Finally if a blogger is different then a journalist then what about journalist… more

        • As a journalist, what's currently your biggest advantage and disadvantage pertaining to your career?

What routines and practices are working for you in your career?

What do you feel you need to improve your situation? Training? More connections?

          • How can we separate the discussion about funding journalism from discussions about good stories?

Does the discussion over journalism's business model keep journalists from doing good work? Are you able to get the support, resources necessary to write good stories for publication in print or online?
